North to Northeast (4)

Phrae

As we had to go to Laos (Vientiane) to let my friends do Thai Visa, the closet Thailand border is Nong Khai in Northeast.  But in the past we can go there by slow boat from Chiang Khong (town in Chiang Rai province) to Luang Prabang then take a bus to Vientiane.  That trip take about 8 hours.  So we made decision to visit that town before drive down to Nong Khai.  Chaing Khong is a small and quiet town.  In the past many tourists have to go there and across to Laos to take slow boat to Laung Prabang then go to Vientiane.  But now there is not enough water in Mekong river. Pai in Mae Hong Son

Pai in Mae Hong Son

Pai is a small city in Mae Hong Son province in northern Thailand.  For me Pai look like city of art, everything are so lovely.  Cold weather with small nice guest house and good food.  If you want to go there I recommend in winter would be the best.  Then try one night camping on mountain (Thai name:Pang Ung) and one night at Moo Baan Rak Thai (Chinese town).  Don’t forget thick cloth because at night the temperature maybe under 10 degree celsius.

Go to Pai : By small plane from Chiang Mai around 40 minutes or small local bus around 3 hours.

You will love Pai as same as me. Continue reading Pai in Mae Hong Son
